Ever heard of phantom limb in an amputee, where they feel like they can feel their missing limb? Similarly, some ostomates feel the urge to poop from their butt, even when they’ve had their rectum and anus removed and closed up. Just because the rectum and anus aren’t there doesn’t mean the nerves are gone. Usually the urge will go away relatively quickly. If it’s persistent, sitting on the toilet for a minute can help relieve the urge. If it’s really persistent,it doesn’t hurt to get a doctor’s opinion and see if there’s anything they can identify that might be causing the urge.
